Celebrating our 90th year as a vital Spiritualist community

90th Anniversary

This year (2008) marks the 90th year since the incorporation of the East Hamilton Spiritual Church.
The founding members of the East Hamilton Church were originally affiliated with the First Spiritualist Church of Hamilton.

In their article on The Canadian Spiritualist Movement and Sources for it's Study Walter J. Meyer zu Erpen and Joy Lowe write:
"During the First World War, the influence of British Spiritualism and the desire of Canadian Spiritualist to have
their belief system recognized as a legitimate religious denomination resulted in the establishment of Spiritualist churches.
Many of the Original investigative societies were replaced by Spiritualist churches... Spiritualist churches were
apparently first incorporated under provincial charters during this period. For instance the Government
of Ontario incorporated the East Hamilton Spiritual Church on 25th September, 1918."

It was a standing room only crowd for the 90th anniversary celebration at the East Hamilton Spiritual Church. Longtime members, newcomers, friends and colleagues from other churches were among the dozens of people who helped the church to celebrate this significant milestone. The day started with a special morning service that included the presentation of a plaque to the Church by Patrick Yeoman (First Vice President of the Spiritualist Church of Canada) and the presentation of Life Memberships to Elma Petrie and Harold Limberger by Rev. Patti Tomczyk. The morning's lecture was delivered by Rev. Karen Stanton and opening messages were offered by Rev. Tomczyk.

This Celebration Service was followed by a luncheon and an All Message Service. The service was chaired by Church President Peter Schwartz and included music and hymns. Guest mediums Rev. John Goldsby and Rev. Sandy Greer shared their memories of their time serving the church over the years and offered messages from spirit and words of healing and encouragement to the crowd. This was the largest crowd ever to gather in the building and was the highlight of one of the Churches most successful years of events and programming.

Special thanks to: Rev. John Goldsby, Rev. Sandy Greer, Pam Briand, Chelsea Dunn, Kyle Pacey,
Nancy Dunn, Carol Fleg, Judy Selman, Patrick Yeoman, Jessie Cavers, Shannon Hodgson
Ben Glassier and Carolyn Molnar and all the other volunteers and guests
who helped to make this day such a great success.
